Buying guide · City · London · Summer · Guest dressing
London Indian weddings run May to September. The British summer is a fiction — the wedding will be 14°C and drizzling or 32°C and humid, often in the same week. We dress London's diaspora wedding community out of our Sydney atelier and we have opinions about what survives the venue mix when you're a guest. Country-house weddings (Hedsor, Stoke Park, Wotton House) demand outdoor-friendly fabrics. London-hotel weddings (Landmark, May Fair, Dorchester) are climate-controlled and forgiving. Plan for both. Below are the criteria, six pieces we'd ship to a London guest, and the mistakes we see most often.
What to look for
01

02
Even in cool British summers, six hours in a heavy velvet sherwani at an outdoor ceremony is punishment. Save velvet for autumn-winter London weddings.
03
Pure Banarasi silk reads as gravitas at the London hotel reception. Chanderi for the daytime mehendi at a Cotswold country house. Both fly to the UK in 5 days with our express shipping.
04
British and continental sizing runs different from Indian or Australian. We have a UK-specific measurement guide — request before you place the order. Stitching to the wrong size system is a 2-week refit.
05
We ship from Sydney to the UK in 4–6 business days. Insurance is included on every order; the duty-paid option costs an additional $120 so the package clears HMRC without your involvement.

Common mistakes
Sourcing from Southall on the day of the function. The boutiques there are good for last-minute basics, but the made-to-measure pieces are off-the-rack alterations. Commission 8–10 weeks ahead from a real atelier.
Ignoring the weather variance. London in June can be 14°C and rain. Plan a wool-blend stole or a lined dupatta as Plan B.
Booking a heavy zardozi lehenga for an outdoor Cotswolds function. The grass and the weight do not co-operate. Lighter raw silk with hem-concentrated embroidery is the right answer.
Skipping the duties pre-pay. HMRC will hold your package and you will need to clear it manually. Always select the duty-paid option.
Common questions
Free express shipping (DHL or FedEx) on orders over AUD $250. Standard delivery: 4–6 business days. Insurance included. Optional duty-paid clearance at $120.
Not yet. We do video-call fittings with UK customers and Ketaki visits London once a year (usually August). Email if your event is statement-budget — we'll coordinate.
Summer (May–Sep): raw silk, Banarasi, Chanderi, organza, georgette. Winter (Oct–Apr): velvet, brocade, Banarasi heavy weight, wool-silk blends. Both seasons want layered dressing.
Custom-stitched pieces aren't returnable, but we re-cut any fit issue at no charge. Pre-stitched pieces have a 14-day return window if unworn with tags. International return shipping at customer cost.
